The Baby Society Finches are Growing!

The oldest baby has just begun to open it's eyes! Can you see the tiny hole next to the eye? This is the baby's ear. How amazing!

The wing and tail feathers are starting to come in.

Both babies do a lot of resting each day!

Their wings are really starting to develop more and more.

Look at the wings on the oldest baby now! Can you see what color the feathers might be? There's lots of white, but also, if you look closely there's some tan ones coming in, too. Baby 1 is becoming much more alert. Can you see that it's eyes are open?

Both babies are tired after being fed. Look at the little sprouts of feathers coming in on their heads! We can't wait to see the babies begin to sit up in the nest. ☺

Watkins Glen Trip

The trail lead us straight behind this waterfall...

Here Micah is trying to reach it...
What shape does this remind you of...hmmm...

Another waterfall with a stone bridge above it...

Two little waterfalls...
Twisty, curvy, and fast flowing little river...

These are from our little 1  1/2 mile nature hike with 832 steps up. It took us 2 hours and we were all exhausted, but we were re-energized quickly after Grandma bought us ice cream!

Our Baby Society Finches

This is Buck and Bella.....Two of our four Society Finches.
Bella laid 5 eggs, but only 2 were fertile.
Below are pictures of their very first baby, born Aug. 7, 2012
This is baby at 1 day old.

This is baby at 2 days old. Not much difference, huh?

This is baby at 3 days old. It's really starting to wiggle around more!

Again at 3 days old. It's still very wobbly when it tries to move.

Here is baby at 4 days old. It's growing! Can you see it's tiny feather on its back?
Buck is a great dad! Would you believe he actually feeds the birds more than their mom does? Bella is best at sitting over them and keeping them warm and cozy.

He is very watchful over his baby.

Baby bird actually stays warm from the heat absorbed by the other eggs for now.

GUESS WHAT?? Now there's a sibling! Baby 2 was finally born on Aug. 10th. Baby 2 is in front. Can you see the difference in their size?

Baby 1 is 4 days old. Baby 2 is only 1 day old, and at the back on its side. Since they have each other to stay warm, we removed the three eggs that weren't fertile. One of the eggs was buried below the others.

Buck is feeding one of his babies. He eats the food first, and then makes it soft to give to the babies. We give Buck and Bella bird seed, but they also love other food like corn bread, white bread, peas, peaches and eggs! Becca cuts the food up into tiny, edible pieces for them.

Can you see baby 2 crying for food? It's 2 days old now. We can hear both babies peeping very faintly if we put our ear close to their nest!

The babies sleep a lot right now. And they are always on top of, or very near to each other. Baby 1 is a week old now, and its sibling is 3 days old here. They don't look very cute quite yet, but what precious, tiny little miracles they are!! God made them perfect, and gave them very loving and attentive parents to help them grow.

We'll keep posting pictures every week so you can watch the babies along with us!! So, what do you think of them so far?
